Choose a bitrate for the content

Lower bitrates usually make smaller files, while higher values leave more room for detail. Listen to a short passage after export, especially consonants, quiet background sounds and music. Pick the lowest setting that still sounds right for your use.

Choose a compact sharing format

MP3 works with many players. M4A and AAC use AAC encoding, while OGG and audio WebM use Opus; these depend on browser encoder support. Check a sample in the app where the file will be played.

Understand WAV and FLAC

WAV saves uncompressed audio; FLAC compresses audio losslessly. Neither uses the audio compressor’s bitrate setting, and both can be larger than a compressed source. They cannot restore detail already lost in the original recording.
