A closer look

An image compressor for lighter photos and graphics

Large photos carry more detail than many everyday uses need. Use the image compressor on a still JPG, PNG or WebP image, resize it when useful, and download a separate copy. Processing stays in your browser, so you can work on images without creating an account.

01

Choose a format for the image

JPEG works well for photographs but fills transparent areas with white. WebP can preserve transparency with compact output. PNG keeps a lossless image representation, but is not always the smallest choice and does not use the quality slider.

02

Resize before over-compressing

If an image will be displayed at a smaller size, reduce its dimensions first. Then compare quality levels around fine text, hair and smooth gradients. Smaller dimensions and an appropriate format often matter as much as the quality setting.

03

Work with still images

The image compressor accepts still JPG, PNG and WebP files. Animated PNG and WebP are rejected so an animation is not silently reduced to one frame. Images above 40 megapixels are also rejected to help manage memory.

Image compressor options for format and size

The image compressor lets you match the format and dimensions to the picture you actually need.

Choose JPEG, WebP or PNG

Try JPEG for photographs, WebP for compact images with transparency, or PNG when you need lossless image output.

Reduce oversized dimensions

Scale down a photo that will appear in a smaller space. Avoid throwing away detail through aggressive quality reduction before considering dimensions.

Handle transparent backgrounds

WebP and PNG can preserve transparency. The image compressor fills transparent pixels with white for JPEG output, so check logos and product cutouts before downloading.

How to use the image compressor

Choose the format, adjust the image and keep the finished copy.

Add a JPG, PNG or WebP file to the image compressor from your device or a direct HTTPS URL. Animated PNG/WebP and images above 40 megapixels are rejected.

Lighter pictures for real publishing tasks

Use the image compressor differently for a product photo, a screenshot and an email attachment.

Prepare product photos

Resize oversized camera images for a listing. Compare JPEG and WebP and check fine product detail against the original.

Optimize screenshots and graphics

Keep labels readable and transparent edges clean. PNG can suit crisp graphics; WebP may produce a smaller usable copy.

Send photos with a message

Create a smaller JPEG or WebP for email or chat. Keep the full-resolution original if you may need a print later.

Image compression: example feedback

Illustrative feedback for this tool. These examples are not verified user reviews.

Product page went from about four seconds to just over one to load. To my eye the shots look identical. I keep re-checking the size comparison because I like it.
Emily R.Product designer
Converted my listing photos to WebP and the transparent backgrounds survived. That alone saved me from either reshooting or paying monthly for one of those tools.
Noor A.Online shop owner
Gmail kept bouncing my photos. Now I attach the lighter copy and get on with my day, with the big originals saved for print if I ever need them.
Carlos D.Newsletter writer
Biggest fear was blurry text in screenshots. Resize first, quality second — text stayed sharp and the file got tiny. The order really does matter.

PNG to WebP, transparency intact, no upload queue. It is on my pre-launch checklist for every client site now.
Victor S.Web developer
No signup, no watermark, no surprise upgrade screen before download. It compressed my photo and let me leave. Five stars for respecting my time.
